A graduate of the prestigious The School of Makeup in Singapore, Jace Ang’s impressive resume boasts the likes of The Make-Up Store for a corporate client, plus scores of editorial pages in bestselling women’s magazines like Her World and Cleo.

Her passion and love for her craft shines through in the ravishing and glamorous looks she has given to artistes such as Ericia Lee, Kym Ng and Gurmit Singh.

Currently a freelance makeup artist for hire, Jace’s style draws inspiration from the Taiwanese and Japanese fashion industries. In her own words, she has developed her style of makeup to have “a sense of girlishness with a touch of glamour.”

Jace has also done exceptional work for the finalists of the City Harvest Church (CHC) Emerge Youth Conference 07 Beauty Pageant and Manhunt, and is currently CHC Choir’s “makeup advisor”.

THIS WEEK’S LESSON: Fake Lashes 101

Vogue magazine (November 2008) decress that false eyelashes are super, super hot right now! Every girl wants a longer, lusher, lovelier pair. We ask Jace to teach us how to put fake eyelashes on, the professional way.

Step 1: Cut the lashes to the length of your eyes. One way to gauge the length is to measure from the outer corner of the eyes where the real lashes are to the inner corner. Leave some allowance in the inner corner, so that you will not poke your tear ducts with the fake lashes.
Step 2:
Curl your real lashes. You can put on some mascara
Step 3:
Line your eyes with a black eyeliner — liquid or pencil is fine. Line in between your real lashes. For me I prefer to use a waterproof eye pencil — this helps to tuck the lash line in neatly
Step 4:
Next, put on some lash glue** — black or transparent. Use a toothpick or the back of a tweezer to carefully apply the glue onto the false lash bone. Fan it a little to allow glue to be half dry before you apply the eyelashes. This is to prevent the glue from becoming tacky
Step 5:
Apply the fake lash above your lash line from the center, adjusting the outer corner first, then follow with the inner corner. Push the lashes inward to secure. Once the fake lashes are secured, gently sweep your real lashes upwards so that the fake and real lashes come together for a more natural effect.
Step 6:
As the glue dries the skin around the lashes will feel wrinkled and tight. After the glue is fully dried, give the lashes a light tug (but not pull them off!) — this is to make them more comfortable to wear.
Step 7:
Apply eyeliner in black colour to neaten the lash line. For this step, I usually prefer to use a waterproof liquid liner to define the lash line more accurately.
Step 8: Curl the lashes with a eyelash curler*. Usually I will use a mini curler to curl the fake lash, as a normal full curler will not curl the lashes in the inner corners.
BUYING TIPS:
* Sasa sells these smaller curlers
** The glue I prefer to use is Duo Eyelash glue in black. For beginners, use transparent glue, available at Guardian and Watson’s
