The sunny sky of Nov. 25 mirrored the mood of 160 members of the LYL zone. It was the day they had all been waiting for: the year-end One Conference.
The conference, which zone supervisor Lee Yilun started “to ignite the passion for God in the youths of LYL zone” was held at City Harvest Church’s Jurong West premises. The event kicked off at 8 a.m. with a scheduled seven-kilometer run, an activity that emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For many, this was the longest distance they had ever attempted, but all managed to finish the run within 90 minutes.
Following that was a “spiritual run”: members engaged in a prayer meeting led by cell group leader, Liong Chee Pang, 28. Jessica Ho, 24, another cell group leader, preached the first message of the conference and challenged the youth to put God first in their lives and to make Him the Lord of their lives.
The day continued with a series of teambuilding games, that highlighted the importance of having oneness in the body of Christ, and allowed members to display their unity and strength. Members were also challenged with a Bible trivia quiz.
By evening, everyone was ready for the final session. The hall on the fourth floor of the church building was packed to capacity. Cell group leader, Calvin Choo, 27, preached on what it means to be a true disciple of Christ: a Christian is more than a believer; he is also a follower who is humble, like-minded, and committed to God and His church.
The presence of God was strong as Choo prayed for the members. Even after the last session ended, the members lingered in the room. Many were refreshed and revived as they left the conference in one heart, mind and spirit in the house of God.
