How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
I love to communicate with people around the world, and being joyful everyday adds color to my life.
What inspired you to take part in the pageant?
I was impacted by Pastor Kong’s message on the Cultural Mandate when I received Christ at 18 years old. Realizing that “with position comes influence,” I decided to join the Miss Earth pageant, striving to be a light in society while holding true to my Christian values.
What is your passion in life?
To see youths achieve their dreams while living out the Cultural Mandate.
In what ways do you live out the green message?
As a science teacher in a primary school, I always strive to come up with creative ideas to convey the green message, such as having labeled recycling bins at the back of the classroom. In this way, students will be influenced to save the environment, even at a young age.
Lavigne Shi, Material Engineering Student at Nanyang Technological University, 23
What was the most important thing you have learned from taking part in the pageant?
The most important thing I learned was that beauty comes from confidence and from expressing your personality. A genuine concern for the environment and love for people are what make a person stand out.
How do you live an environmentally friendly life?
To be eco-friendly, I don’t use air-conditioning, I also reduce plastic bag usage and turn off electrical devices when I leave my house. Basically, it’s not about taking drastic, impractical measures but paying attention to the small details in one’s daily life.
What are your passions in life?
To use what I know to help those people in need, and eventually make a positive influence in the society. As such, I volunteer in different social organizations like CityCare, ECO-Singapore as well as community clubs.
Shannon Lim, Early Childhood Education Student At Ngee Ann Polytechnic, 20
What was the most important thing you have learned from taking part in the pageant?
I feel that friendships played a very important role. During this journey, I am glad that I have friends who offered me their support and encouragement. Without the presence of these friends, I guess I would not have the confidence to take part in this pageant, what more expect to win a title.
How do you live an environmentally friendly life?
As much as I know that the three “R”s are the most fundamental ways to conserve the environment, I do my part on a daily basis, collecting unwanted materials and reusing them as materials during lessons with my students.
What are your passions in life?
I love children and I am inspired to be a pre-school teacher. After this pageant, I will continue to hold on to the belief that environmental awareness should be instilled in young children.
