CHC’s Evangelistic Weekend, Featuring David and His 5 Stones

The story of David and Goliath is not unfamiliar to many. Most see it as a straightforward call to ‘face their giants,’ but Kong Hee, Senior Pastor of City Harvest Church (CHC) added an interesting dimension to the story last weekend in CHC’s evangelistic services — the five stones that David possessed to conquer his giant, Goliath, translated into stones that have the potential to change our lives.

When the stones were left on the ground, they were grey and lifeless. Placed in the hands of David, however, these stones became mighty weapons for him to defeat Israel’s enemy. At first sight, the battle’s outcome looked to be cast in stone. In a spectator’s eyes, there was no way the young David could overcome a huge giant more than twice his size. The odds were too great. Nonetheless, when we face a similar situation like David’s, the Bible offers the same five stones for us to overcome the giants in our lives:

1. The stone of the past — Remembering God for His provision over our lives.
2. The stone of prayer — Making prayer a way of life.
3. The stone of priority — Putting God first in our lives.
4. The stone of passion — Believing fervently in God.
5. The stone of persistence — Constantly seeking God for a breakthrough.

Faith arose amongst the congregation, as Kong shared of the power that resided in these stones of the past, prayer, priority, passion and persistence. Laughter and earnest agreement abounded, as Kong candidly related his experience as a young missionary to the Philippines, and how he was used by God through these ‘stones’ to preach to the poor, and pray for the sick.

The congregation at the service went away encouraged that they too could use these stones in practical, biblical ways to defeat the giants in their lives.
