A group of 15 members from AS Zone went to Sunlove Home on 28 March with one single purpose to bring joy and laughter to the patients. Established since 1987, Sunlove Home provides residential care to 200 intellectually disadvantaged individuals.

Two weeks before the event, the members gathered on a Saturday afternoon to hone their singing and vocal skills. One of the Cell Group leaders managed to get local singer Bevlyn Khoo to impart some singing and breathing techniques. Khoo started as a part-time singer in 1999 after entering the finals of a singing competition. Besides singing, she also ventured into areas like song writing and was seen in the local musical production, Phua Chu Kang The Musical in 2005.

Khoo released her first EP in 2008 and she’s also the voice behind the sub theme song “Bao Wen” for the highly-acclaimed Mediacorp drama, Little Nyonya. She will be releasing her full-length album on 2 April and has recently won the Best Indie Award in the Singapore E-Award.

When the members reached Sunlove Home, they could feel the excitement in the air as patients were looking forward to the “special treat” that Saturday afternoon. The patients were responsive and participated actively in the “Drawing Game”, where they were encouraged to draw pictures and prizes were given out to those who managed to guess correctly.

After that, it was time for the special number as the members went on stage to belt out a medley of Chinese oldies. The performance was well-liked by the patients as they clapped and sang along enthusiastically. When it came to the all-time favorite “Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin”, some of the patients even spontaneously went on stage to join in the performance.

Jordan, one of the volunteers, said, “It really feels good to know that the little that we have done can bring so much joy to these patients.” It was an afternoon of joy and smiles, as they brought the love of Jesus to the patients at Sunlove Home.
