With the nation entering into some of its driest, hottest months ahead, one might think a steamboat is the last place to hit for lunch or dinner. But we think wallet-conscious foodies won’t be able to stay away from this new joint.

GoroGoro Steamboat & Korean Buffet is named for the sound of one’s rumbling tummy. It’s also the sound made by the bubbling of its steamboat soup, explains its digital marketing advisor Elim Chew.

Ordinary steamboat houses offer two soup bases, but GoroGoro offers the option of having a third for each table (for an additional $5++). Gentle tastebuds will find the Vege and Ginseng Chicken soups reminiscent of home-cooked goodness, but strong customer favorites are the pepperish Mala and equally piquant Tomyam, and the Beauty Collagen, which comprises a cloudy flavorful broth created by boiling pork bones for many hours to release rich collagen.

Diners can choose from 50 types of fresh meats (the pork collar and pork belly are particularly good), vegetables and cooked dishes including Korean signatures such as jap chae (stir-fry glass noodles), kimchi pancakes and tteokbokki as well the star—Korean fried chicken, drizzled with soy garlic sauce. The XO sauce ups the game at the condiment section, and goes very well with almost everything.

The place, with its wall-to-wall windows, is very spacious, with a seating capacity of 220—perfect for large gatherings. In an effort to help build a more inclusive society, GoroGoro also employs the hearing-impaired as service and kitchen crew.

Affordable, delicious, accessible and meaningful—what’s there not to like about this place?
