SHADES: Spring/Summer 2010 ushers in a fresh fashion season that brings in new colors and shapes. Designers are discarding those bright, eye-catching shades and replacing them with subtle tones.

Black, white, grey, dull purple, olive green, beige (camel) and orange are the season’s new colors. The shades Spring/Summer 2010 borrow from the anti-art Dada movement of the 1920s—entire collections comes in a single tone, or the maximum of two colors are used in fashion this season.

STYLES: Think “Safari” and “Camper” when you get dressed this season, and you will not go wrong. Adopt the new, loose flared look which gives off a carefree feeling of fun in the sun.

Start investing in short sleeve shirts in camel. A nice pair of khaki pants and fitted cargo pants for guys is a wise investment. As for the ladies, loose fitting cargo-style bermudas are ideal, matched with Dr Martens high boots.

WHAT YOU CAN RECYCLE

For the girls
If your boyfriend is one or two sizes larger than you, borrow his short khaki bermudas, they should be loose enough for you.
• Keep your high boots (flat-heeled)—you will be using them a lot in the coming season.
• Keep your last-season checkered shirts for layering. Tie them around your waist or over your shoulders.
• Keep your skinny, short scarves, and wear them around your side pockets.
• Anything black works this season. Just be sure the material is thin enough to suit the weather.

For the guys
• Fish out your camping shirts.
• Clean out your Dr Martens high boots—they spell “rugged”.
• Take out your casual pants and roll them up to your hem (until ankle level) for the season’s casual look.
• Skinny ties are back! Wear one with your Safari shirt. The look is smart yet casual.
• Black or beige jackets.

NEW ITEMS YOU MUST HAVE
• Dr Martens eight-eye boots.
• A short or long sleeve shirt in a camel or khaki shade.
• Loose-fitting bottoms in denim or khaki.
• Flared skirts for the ladies.
• Big duffle bags.
• Brightly-colored long socks to bring some life to the monotone style that we will be sporting for a few months.
• Thin belts—we will be tucking in our shirts most of the time!
